Brightly’s 2024
Business Impact Report
Each year, we publish our Impact Report which shares our progress and reflections from the past 12 months, with transparent examples of the positive social and environmental impact we’ve achieved.
It’s also a chance for us to look ahead and recognise opportunities for improvement, so we can continue to focus on doing business better.
Having recertified as a B Corp in 2023, this report also reflects on the steps we continue to take to improve our overall B Impact Score.
For us, the old way of doing business is untenable. We can’t accept continual exploitation of our environment or the growing inequalities in our society. If we’re to be in business at all, it must be to change things for the better.
We believe climate change needs urgent attention. And we also believe that there can be no climate justice without social justice. That’s why we’re as dedicated to community and social issues as environmental ones.
We're walking the talk
Giving back
Through charitable and sponsorship partnerships, we’re putting our support behind important initiatives that align with our vision for a more sustainable and equitable future.
Each year we donate 1% of our company’s revenue to causes we support. In FY24 we donated $23,645.28 to our non-profit partners and over 50 hours of pro-bono support (totalling $117,180).
Our environmental
impact
We measure and assess our impact using Toitū’s carbon assess tool, which allows us to identify areas for improvement and mitigate the impact of our emissions by purchasing offsets. We make the following conscious choices to reduce our carbon footprint:
Provide access to e-bikes and subsidised public transport
Work in a Green Star building at GridAKL
Offset the carbon of all our air travel
Work with CarbonZero–certified Urgent Couriers
Encourage our staff to work remotely
E-waste diverted from landfill:
731kg
Donated in services to nonprofit organisations
$26,104
Charitable donations
$19,110
Operational transparency
As a certified B Corp, we continually measure and report on our impact and our areas for improvement across six accountability pillars:
Workers
We’re creating opportunities and expanding diversity in Aotearoa’s tech sector.
Community
We’re supporting more purpose-driven businesses in creating and scaling impact through better ways of doing business.
Environment
We’re offsetting our own carbon footprint, creating a more sustainable supply chain and promoting the reduction of e-waste through our clients.
Customers
We’re supporting more purpose-driven businesses and not-for-profits in creating and scaling impact through better ways of doing business.
Giving back
We donate 1% of our revenue through not-for-profit initiatives and through direct donations to charities suggested by our team.
Governance
We consistently incorporate social and environmental impact into decision-making and consider it critical to the success and profitability of our business.

What our clients say
“Partnering with Brightly gives us a level of scale-ability, without having to invest too much in infrastructure and the wages and costs of doing it ourselves. For us, finding a partner with the capability to support a small organisation on an ad hoc basis was important but then the alignment with our kaupapa and Brightly’s ethos around environmental and social issues was a win.”
Josh Borthwick, CEO
We’re certified climate positive
Climate change and social justice are complex issues and hard to address with limited resources. However, Brightly is committed to improvement, rather than taking the easy option. We have pledged to the Net Zero 2030 commitment, and in February 2023 we achieved Toitū Climate Positive certification. With this certification comes a commitment to improvements to reduce emissions, using data to help guide us in continual mitigation and adaptation initiatives. This involves:
Offsetting our carbon footprint
Maintaining transparent company governance
Expanding our e-waste reduction programme and partnerships
Increasing our non-profit partnerships
Continuing to incorporate sustainable development goals into our company strategy
