Brightly is New Zealand’s first B Corp–certified IT services company.
This means we’re accountable for the impact of our business on our workers, customers, suppliers, community and the environment. As part of every project, we consider opportunities to reduce eWaste by choosing upgradable technologies, rechargeables and more efficient systems.
We’re living wage certified; we offer pro-bono support to local nonprofits Motutapu Resource Trust and Garden-to-Table; and we donate one percent of all our revenue to charity through One Percent Collective. Sustainability is at the heart of our business.
Brightly is a B Corp
We’re proud to be New Zealand’s first IT services company to certify as a B Corporation, joining a growing number of Kiwi businesses with purposes beyond profit.
So what does that mean exactly? It means that sustainability and social justice are more than just words we like to put on our website. It means that an independent global body has given us a certification that represents the very real work we put in to upholding our values.
What is a B Corp?
Businesses in the B Corporation network are forces for good, not just for profit. They’re redefining what it means to be successful. This means factoring in worker wellbeing, environmental impact, transparency, inclusivity and sustainability. To be B Corp certified, businesses must earn a B Impact score of greater than 80, which is given after a rigorous screening process.
You may have heard of some of these companies that have all earned B Corp certification: Allbirds, Patagonia, Ben & Jerry’s, and Ethique.
Why is being a B Corp important to us?
We believe climate change needs urgent attention. And we also believe that there can be no climate justice without social justice. That’s why we’re as dedicated to community and social issues as environmental ones.
What did we score points for?
Our efforts to reduce eWaste
Our commitment to donating one percent of our revenue
The way that we work with our community, team and customers
Next stop, carbon neutral
Climate change and social justice are complex issues and hard to address with limited resources. However, Brightly is committed to improvement, rather than taking the easy option. Over the coming year we’ll be focusing on:
Offsetting our carbon footprint to become carbon-neutral as soon as possible
Company governance and transparency
Expanding our eWaste reduction programme and partnerships
Increasing our non-profit partnerships
Incorporating sustainable development goals into our company strategy
This is just the beginning. The B Corp framework is designed for continuous improvement and we’re ready to rise to the challenge.
