Brightly is now a Toitū climate positive organisation!

Toitu certificate to certify that Brightly Solutions Limited is a climate positive organisation

We’re proud to share that in February Brightly became certified as a climate positive organisation.

This means we have:

  • measured our impacts

  • assessed our broader carbon responsibility

  • compensated for at least 25% more emissions than our footprint, and

  • contributed to broader social and environmental outcomes while demonstrating science-aligned reduction targets and value chain engagement.

Why this certification matters to us

The devastating recent weather events in Aotearoa have served as another reminder that we simply cannot be complacent in our contribution to climate action. Our hearts go out to the whānau and communities impacted, and our resolve is strengthened - we are all in this together.

Going carbon neutral is a good step, but we wanted to go beyond that. Being climate positive demonstrates our full commitment to doing all we can towards reducing the impact of our business. While we were already tracking our emissions (and working to reduce them), the Toitū certification gives us a framework to formally measure, reduce and offset. The certification is backed by science, and is an internationally recognised standard we can put our name to. We’ve shared more on our ‘why’ behind this certification previously

What we track

The Toitū certification requires us to measure our scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions (emissions categories). We’re not just tracking our cloud computing use, power, waste, transport, freight, accommodation and flights, but our wider supply chain as well (we talked more about scope emissions and categories in our previous blog). The audit process gave us a clear picture of our footprint, and where we needed to focus on improvements. It enabled us to put steps in place to further reduce emissions where needed.

We’re not “done”

For us, this certification represents our commitment to measuring our impact, assessing our carbon responsibility and contributing to better environmental outcomes through the way we work. It’s an important part of ensuring that we take ownership for the impact that our business has. But, there is no "done"! Along with this certification comes a commitment to continue to focus on improvements to reduce emissions, using data to help guide us in continual mitigation and adaptation initiatives.
